You can not see into the concrete mixer drum but our drivers will be happy to run a small amount of concrete down the lorry shoot so you can have a quick look at the consistency. Please be mindful this is only possible if you are offloading the truck as a 'straight tip' into an area or you place a wheelbarrow under the shoot to catch the test concrete. Read our how-to on the day of delivery for more information.
It's simple, 'SLUMP' means the consistency of the concrete mix before it sets. Consistency ranges from dry to wet concrete. The lower the slump number the drier the concrete. We supply concrete in four slump classes: S1, S2, S3, S4. Dry concrete mix = S1 and a fluid wet mix = S4. You will need to select the correct slump to ensure easy placement of your concrete depending on where and how the concrete is being placed and for what purpose. Check out our blog on slumps for more information.
We will always do our best to deliver your concrete all in weather conditions. However please be mindful that some products may not be suitable to lay in conditions below 5 degrees and over 30 degrees. It is best you keep an eye on the forecast and speak to a member of our sales or technical team via our online chat or contact us if you are unsure.
Exposure to wet concrete can result in skin irritation or even first, second- or third-degree chemical burns. It is important to always wear full PPE. If your skin comes into contact with wet concrete wash with water immediately and seek medical advice. Read our H&S guidance for further support.
Always stay aware of your surroundings and others
Wearing the right clothing to handle concrete is highly important and essential for your safety. You may be refused on site without the correct PPE with you. Minimum levels of correct PPE should be worn by everyone involved in the laying of the concrete delivery.
