When the truck mixer arrives on your site, the driver will assess the required delivery location, and discuss with you the best and safest method of discharging the concrete into the place you require. If it is not possible to get the truck mixer close enough, and you have notified us at the time of ordering that you may require it, off-loading directly into wheelbarrows* will be possible.
*(1m3 = 25 to 30 wheelbarrow loads!)
If the truck mixer is required on site for more than 60 minutes, a small additional charge may be applied. It is a legal requirement that the driver washes his chutes before he enters back onto the highway after discharge. This will require a wheelbarrow, waste ground or skip to minimise your mess on site. Every vehicle will have its own wash-off hose and water on board. Please be aware even though we are offering a readymix service, this is still a heavy goods vehicle.
The chemical reaction that takes place within a concrete mix begins as soon as the cement and water are mixed together. This means that dependant on the travel time from our concrete plant to your delivery location, usually you will have between 1 – 2 hours once the concrete arrives on your job to place, level, compact and finish the mix. Higher strength mixes will generally give a little less working time than lower grades. Please ensure you have enough people to complete your project on time. We do offer high performance products which gain early high strengths, when faster strength gains are required. If you’re unsure about any of this information please refer to our How to guides or contact us.
One cubic metre of concrete weighs around 2.4 tonnes. That equates to about 25-30 wheelbarrow loads per 1m3!
We do not suggest the use of wheelbarrows to offload the concrete. There are approximately (depending on the size of the barrows) 25-30 wheelbarrow loads to 1m3 of concrete (1m3 being the equivalent of 2.4 tonnes) and you only have 60 minutes to offload the concrete before you start to incur additional waiting time charges. It is far less labour intensive, and usually more cost effective to hire a concrete pump. For further info, please refer to our How to guides
If you need to cancel your order please get in contact with us as soon as possible. We require a minimum of 24 hours notice when cancelling a delivery. Cancellations with less then 24 hours notice will be subject to a cancellation fee. If you have any questions regarding cancellations, please feel free to contact us.
Exposure to wet concrete can result in skin irritation or even first, second- or third-degree chemical burns. It is important to always wear full PPE. If your skin comes into contact with wet concrete wash with water immediately and seek medical advice. Read our H&S guidance for further support.
Wearing the right clothing to handle concrete is highly important and essential for your safety. You may be refused on site without the correct PPE with you. Minimum levels of correct PPE should be worn by everyone involved in the laying of the concrete delivery.
MINIMUM PPE:
All should be worn to prevent any splashes getting on to the skin, face or eyes.
DO NOT WEAR SHORTS, SHORT SLEEVED TOPS OR OPEN SHOES LIKE FLIP FLOPS
